The Jamaica Ex-Soldiers Association New York Inc. (J.E.S.A.NY) was officially constituted on December 24, 2007 in the borough of the Bronx in the city of New York. We are a non-profit, 501 (c3) approved, New York State Tax-exempt, non-partisan, charitable organization operating in the United States of America.
J.E.S.A.s’ mandate:
- Education – Provide financial assistance for tools and other materials necessary for the development of the children of the diaspora.
- Charitable Home Adoptions – Provide assistance as the need arises to select Elderly and Children’s Homes
- Disaster Relief – Provide food and other basic necessities to victims of natural disasters.
- Strategic Partnerships – Collaborative partnership with various organizations in assisting underserved members of the community.
Membership is open to Ex-serving members and non-serving members of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) as well as relatives and friends of the association. Meetings are held monthly to keep members informed of the issues within our community and in Jamaica.
Health and education has been our focal point. Over the years JESA NY has remained steadfast in their support of the Curphey Home in Jamaica (home for Jamaican and WWII veteran’s, men and women), and veterans who have fallen on hard times and need help with medical and prescriptions. We also remained steadfast in the support of the NYPD National Night Out which is an organized nationwide event held annually to provide back-to-school educational materials for the children in the community. JESA NY also supports food drives for the needy during the Thanksgiving celebrations.
JESA NY continuously receives and re-distributes donations in the form of medical supplies, clothing, food, and educational materials.
Fundings for the JESA objectives have been obtained primarily from ongoing fundraising events; our main event is our Annual Black-Tie Gala which is held annually on the 3rd Saturday in the month of September. Moving forward our goal is to expand and grow our support base while building relationships with other community organizations so we can increase our charitable assistance here in the diaspora as well as in Jamaica.
JESA NY is relentless in our pursuit to realize our dreams of improving the lives of veterans and individuals. With the dedication of our members and collaborative partnerships, we are confident we will continue to be a positive force in the communities we serve.
