For three decades, the ESSENCE Festival of Culture® presented by Coca-Cola® has been more than just a music festival—it’s been a cultural pilgrimage. And in 2025, the iconic celebration returns to New Orleans bigger, bolder, and more soul-stirring than ever.
As ESSENCE Magazine commemorates 55 years of telling our stories with truth, style, and unapologetic power, the Festival doubles down on its legacy of amplifying Black excellence—from the legends who shaped the culture to the new voices ready to carry it forward.
This year’s theme? Made Like This. From the sweat-drenched dance floors of the Superlounge to the show-stopping grandeur of the Superdome stage, every curated moment is designed to honor the depth, range, and beauty of the Black experience.
A Lineup That Honors the Past, Present, and Future
Let’s talk headliners: This year’s Evening Concert Series reads like a dream setlist—where soul, R&B, hip-hop, and Afrobeats collide.

Grammy-winning maestro Babyface will grace the stage alongside a powerhouse lineup curated by Jill Scott herself. The Philly queen will be joined by Patti LaBelle—the Godmother of Soul—and Jazmine Sullivan, forming a generational trifecta of pure vocal brilliance.
That’s just the beginning.

Previously announced stars include Boyz II Men, Davido, Maxwell, and hometown hero Master P, who returns for his final performance—a momentous farewell from a mogul who reshaped hip-hop’s business blueprint. He’ll be flanked by the No Limit Soldiers, including Mia X and Silkk the Shocker, plus guests like Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Dru Hill, and Keri Hilson—all bridging the gap between legacy and innovation.
Giving Flowers While They Can Still Smell Them
In what’s sure to be a highlight of the weekend, Jermaine Dupri will lead an all-star tribute titled ESSENCE Flowers: A Quincy Jones Joint—a celebration of the music legend’s unparalleled influence.
Expect a genre-blending, generation-spanning performance with artists like Tyrese, Al B. Sure!, Robin Thicke, SWV, Xscape, The Pharcyde, and Mobb Deep—each with their own sonic connection to Jones’ vast legacy. Whether through samples, mentorship, or collaboration, these artists are proof that Quincy’s DNA runs through everything from smooth jazz to gritty East Coast bars.
The Return of a Legend: Superlounge Is Back

You asked. They listened.
The Superlounge—long cherished as the heart and soul of the Festival—is making its triumphant return. This intimate stage is where fans discovered artists before the world did. Reimagined and reenergized, it promises the same sweat, sound, and soul that made it iconic.
A Multigenerational Soundtrack to the Culture

This year’s roster reads like a love letter to Black music in all its forms:
- Erykah Badu – Still the High Priestess of Neo-Soul.
- Ari Lennox – Carrying the torch forward with velvet vocals.
- Buju Banton – Representing reggae royalty.
- Summer Walker, Donell Jones, Muni Long, GloRilla, Nas, The Isley Brothers – The vibes are expansive and electric.
- Rising stars like Psiryn and MOLIY share space with trailblazers, proving once again that the ESSENCE Festival is where the baton gets passed.
In a special nod to ESSENCE’s 55th anniversary, hip-hop’s original human beatbox, Doug E. Fresh, will lead a tribute that fuses freestyle, nostalgia, and boundless energy. It’s a celebration of the culture’s heartbeat—and the voices who’ve kept it alive.
More Than a Festival—It’s a Movement
Presented by Coca-Cola®, with major partners AT&T, L’Oréal Groupe, and Target as the official retail partner, the 2025 ESSENCE Festival is set to deliver not just entertainment, but intentionality. With access to exclusive daytime experiences, wellness activations, business forums, and curated community offerings—all powered by the E360 app—guests can personalize their journey and move through the weekend on their own terms.
From curated panels and cultural conversations to live music and once-in-a-lifetime collaborations, this year’s festival is a living archive of our stories—our joy, our genius, our resistance.
