On Sunday July 22nd, 2018 the Grace Jamaica Jerk Festival was the scene at which the increasingly popular Nigerian singer Pato Ranking thrilled those patrons who braved the inclement weather.
The slender vocalist graced the stage right after the New Kingston reggae band. Backed by his band, Fire Republic, Pato Ranking covered the stage showcasing his special style in reggae harmony. The predominantly reggae fans was entertained by his delivery and passion for the genre.
The VP/ Grace Festival which drew a diverse crowd of approximately twelve thousand patrons, including kids, had local and national sponsors, was more of a family day. With the aroma of the jerk flavors penetrating the atmosphere of south Jamaica Queens, food lovers had no trouble in chowing down their favorite jerk cuisine.
With the threatening forecast of rain all day, the sky finally gave way minutes after the crowd favorite, the energetic Elephant man took the stage. With Mother Nature too much for the open-air audience, the 8th annual Jerk festival was cut short, but will certainly be on most people’s calendar for next year.
