Normadelle’s public persona came to prominence as the Administrator of the Jamaica Gleaner Company in New York. In that position, she enhanced the popularity of the Gleaner (one of the oldest newsprint tabloids in the Western Hemisphere) among Jamaicans in the Diaspora, a position that she held for seven years. Ms. Rose saw her tenure at the Gleaner as giving back, since she had never worked in her native Jamaica, as she migrated to the USA just after leaving High School.
Prior to working at the Gleaner Company, she was a Database Marketing Manager at American Express for over a decade. While at American Express, she enrolled in the Dale Carnegie course thinking it would help to be more diplomatic in her interactions with others. When asked by the instructor why she enrolled, her answer was that she wanted to be able to tell someone to go to hell in such a way that they looked forward to the journey.
She is an active member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in the Bronx and past president of The Lamplighters, a group that visits the sick and shut-ins homebound and in hospitals. For years she conducted the Arts and Craft activity for the church’s Grandparents Day. She was also one of the founding members of the Bereavement Committee, a group that assisted church members in their time of bereavement.
Normadelle sees volunteering as a duty and helps whenever the need arises. As such she volunteered with Junior Achievement and currently volunteers with The American Foundation for The University of the West Indies (AFUWI), Mustard Seed Communities and the Fundraising team for The Organization for International Development. She has also served on the Jamaica Independence Ball Planning Committee for a number of years.
One of her greatest satisfaction is seeing an ambitious student whom she assisted through high school(in Jamaica) gain her Ph.D. and is currently teaching at a University. She is a firm believer that if each person helps one student, so many more would have an opportunity to excel. She also believes we are our brother’s keeper and as such should always lend a helping hand.
She holds a BS in Computer Information Systems from Mercy College, attended Church Teachers College, Mandeville, and St. Hugh’s High School in Kingston, Jamaica
Normadelle hails from Porous Manchester, her hobbies are Arts and Craft, Calligraphy, and Event Planning.
