Groovin’ In The Park, New York’s premier reggae festival, returns for it’s 7th year at the Roy Wilkins Park in Queens, NY. What started 2011 as the Reggae, Rhythm and Blues Festival has developed into a world class event bringing reggae to the Diaspora. The lineup was announced during a press conference at the Crowne Plaza Hotel and includes the sensational Tarrus Riley, icon R Kelly, crooner Freddie McGregor, and legacies, Ken Boothe, Leroy Sibbles, and Lloyd Parks & We The People Band.
Son of Jimmy Riley, Tarrus has a long list of instant classics including his most recognizable song ‘She’s Royal’. Among his accolades are Best Singer, Male Vocalist of the year, Cultural Artiste and Song of the Year at the Youth View Awards, and the IRAWMA. 2010 saw the release of his album, ‘Protect the People’ which rose to the tops of music charts across the Caribbean.
Grammy nominated singer Freddie McGregor has made significant contributions to reggae music over the last 50 years with hit songs like “Push Come to Shove”, “Big Ship”, and “Just Don’t Want to be Lonely”. More than a musician, McGregor contestants gives back to the community through education fundraisers supported by both Caribbean and American celebrities bridging the gap for access to education.
Groovin’ in the Park will bring the pied piper, R Kelly to the stage as a headliner for the summer concert. A master producer, composer, and performer, R Kelly is known for delivering music that is “spiritual, inspirational and extremely sexual.” The R&B icon will make his debut to deliver a spellbinding performance that fans will remember for years to come.
